Welcome Letter by Commissioner Javier Souto

On Friday, April 13th through Sunday, April 15th, Miami will host the fifth annual “Miami International Agriculture & Cattle Show,” as well as the “Magic City Sale” at the Ronald Reagan Equestrian Center at Tropical Park in Miami, Florida (7900 SW 40 Street).  Developing Miami-Dade County’s potential to  serve as an international gateway to domestic markets in the agriculture industry is the goal of Senator Javier Souto, Commissioner District 10, who partnered with the Miami-Dade Park & Recreation Department to produce the first-ever Miami International Agriculture and Cattle Show in 2008. The Miami International Agriculture & Cattle Show began with a simple vision—to create  agricultural awareness in Miami-Dade County, promote Florida’s agriculture  industry, and provide beef producers with international commerce opportunities.  Yet, in just four years it has surpassed its own preliminary agenda,  demonstrating Miami’s potential to harness agri-business trade and a viable beef  market between Florida, the Southeastern region of the United States, and Latin  America.

As we move into our fifth year,  we continue to make improvements and additions to ensure the continued
success  of our show.  The Miami International Agriculture & Cattle Show draws over  60,000 visitors to the three-day event, with representatives from over 24  countries including Russia, Argentina, Brazil, Panama, and Guatemala. Cattle  breeders from over 18 states including Florida, Georgia, Texas, Arizona, Arkansas, and Missouri have exhibited over a dozen breeds of cattle at the show.

This year we will continue with  the most successful international live auction for cattle genetics in the
United  States, the “Magic City Sale,” which is simulcast internationally via the  internet. This year we will also hold an international equine auction featuring  Paso Fino, Andalusian, Quarter Horses and Peruvian Paso Fino  Horses.
Furthermore, the Florida Cattlemen’s Association awarded the Miami International Agriculture & Cattle Show status as one of five Premier Point Shows in the State of Florida with Brahman, Brangus, Angus, Santa Gertrudis and Senepol to participate in our event.  Our show has also been sanctioned for three years by the American Brahman Breeders Association as a point show as well.

With scenic images of South Beach and the Downtown Skyline as popular backdrops for television and movies
it  comes as no surprise that Miami, Florida is considered one of the most beautiful  cities in the world, and attracts over 12 million visitors annually. It is truly  a “Beta World City” functioning as one of the world’s most important centers of  commerce, finance, and corporate headquarters. Pegged as
the “gateway to the  Americas”, its opportune, geographical location allows it to strongly sustain a  viable international business community.

In an effort to help seedstock  producers and purebred cattle exhibitors find a new market and have another  opportunity to showcase their cattle, the Miami International Agriculture &  Cattle Show opened its doors in 2008 to what has now become the gateway for many  purebred producers to market their cattle and genetics to U.S. and International  markets. The Miami International Agriculture and Cattle
Show has proved Miami  has much more to offer than its world-famous beaches nightclubs and has begun to  take its place among the country’s most competitive beef cattle shows. It has  certainly played a role in enriching Miami-Dade County and stimulating its  economy, as well as providing an avenue for increased international trade of  agricultural products, particularly beef cattle.

With agricultural products and  services in frequent demand throughout the world, Miami-Dade County is taking  advantage of this multi-billion dollar, technologically advanced industry by  providing a convenient, central location for international beef cattle breeders,  agriculturalists and agri-business persons to access domestic
industry products,  livestock, and beef genetics. The future looks quite clear for the Miami  International Agriculture & Cattle Show as it continues to gain  international prestige and support from local beef breeders and further
enhances  agri-business trade and business opportunities for international markets, it  will become one of the most important and prestigious cattle events in the  world.
